I did not get to meet Tolu in her teenage or Pre-teen years, I met her brother and knew that he has a sister called Tolu and a few years later she came to join us in Lagos and live together with us in Mummy Olayinka’s house. The distinct and most remarkable things is about her is that she was different I could not tell if it was the fact that she came from Ilorin and we were used to living life on a fast lane in Lagos so I tagged her slow. She was also always available to help and would never complain or quarrel. She always tries to tell jokes even though it is a struggle for her as most times our laughter is largely for courtesy.
I was privileged to work with her in the early years of our company and one time she visited a prospective client and never returned she was taken and given a life changing job and rose meteorically to Deputy Admin Manager and again she left this time to be with her lover in Ilorin, this was heart wrenching for me, her brother, our Aunty largely because we knew leaving the good job and opportunities in Lagos was almost a resort to beginning again from the scratch but she was resolved as a stone and went with the love of her life and three beautiful girls and a happy home later I felt she chose what was most important to her love and family.
Tolu lived like an angel on earth and could she have been one? I have never seen her complain or regret, I never heard her say something unpleasant about anyone and oh she and her dad were the only guests I had when we buried my grandma in Ogbomosho. She was always there and now is no more. She lived her life as a sacrifice for those she held dear most especially her husband and children and am sure if Tolu was asked to choose again she had choose the discomfort of returning to Ilorin, her husband and her beautiful daughters why? She has to be an Angel she came to serve us all and show us what contentment and true love looks like. I wish I spent more time to know you Tolu and not assume we would someday sit together in our fifties or sixties to reminiscence and share how our different paths brought us to where you did not wait to be. Tolu I love you and trust your Dad and Mum have the pleasure of your smile and warmth now. Till we meet again aburo.
