The higher you go and grow in your life and career the more your job is about making decisions. I used to wonder why senior executives at big corporate organizations make so much money, sometimes tens of millions of dollars and as I have come to understand they are not paying them for coming to work or being smart engineers or being a great manager no one earns that much to do those, they are paid heavy for making critical decision that can impact everyone.
Decision making is hard, most especially because most times we are not choosing between good and evil, that is easy, often we have to choose between two really great stuff or have to choose between two evils or different shades of good and evil, It is tough if you have to make critical decisions, so I do not envy presidents. I honestly cannot tell you how to make the right decision, I can only point you to a few ideas and questions that helps us make good decisions.
- Am I delaying gratification by making this decision ?
- What will look smarter in 10 years as opposed to what looks great now ?
- Do you care more about the integrity of those you are involved with than the reward from relating with them ?
Good decisions often look foolish in the short run but pay dividend for a very long time. Do have a great week !!!
