I AM DELIBERATELY LATE

I attended Saint Savior’s High School in a remote part of Lagos called Alagbada (Ikotun) from year 1 through my first term in year 2, I was always late to school and you could blame it on a lot of things I had to prepare my own breakfast, have to iron my cloths so I do not look so rough, it also looks cloudy most mornings and to be very respectful of the weather I had to wait, or you could blame it on my older friend Chinedu who was in year 5 and notorious for going to school late as a big boy and how could I go alone and leave Chinedu behind, if you are kind enough you could finally blame it on the distance from my home in Ijegun and the terrible road at the time, as you can see my reasons are endless trust me.

One day I got tired of my multi-thronged excuses, I realized I got beaten twice or thrice at the school gate every week for missing the assembly, mind you I was the Class captain in year Two and perhaps it was Toyin’s laughter one morning seeing her leader beat up, I cannot place my hand on it, but once I decided never to be late again I have not been in almost three decades. I do not invalidate your excuses for being late but being late is a decision and so is being early. If you start with this simple belief it could change your life for the better. Many good things are missed, relationships in business destroyed, family strained just because we have chosen to be late. This is your call to make the decision I made almost 30 years ago NEVER TO BE LATE AGAIN AND TRUST ME YOU CAN !!!
